[Anchor] Ko Sang Goo has been appointed as the second president of the World Federation of Korean Associations, an organization that unites over 500 regional Korean associations worldwide.
President Ko emphasized the importance of improving the status of Koreans abroad, strengthening cooperation with their homeland, and promoting next-generation Korean language education within the Korean community to preserve the identity of the Korean people.
Let’s hear directly from President Ko.
[Ko Sang-gu / President of the World Federation of Korean Associations]:
“The most urgent issue I see is the nurturing of the next generation. In fact, as our generation passes on, there is growing concern about whether the next generations will maintain their identity as citizens of South Korea. Many second and third-generation Koreans cannot speak Korean. If this continues, the Korean diaspora will inevitably shrink or become weakened. Education for the next generation is very important, and among that, Korean language education is even more crucial. Another major challenge faced by our community is protecting the rights of our people. Koreans living around the world should rightfully be protected by their respective governments, but unfortunately, this is often not the case. We aim to address these issues step by step.”
