[Discovery News = Kang Tae-hoon Reporter] Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, visited K-Market in Hanoi, Vietnam, on the 29th, where he signed a business agreement with K&K Global Trading (Chairman Ko Sang-gu) for the designation and activation of the Goyang Free Economic Zone.
K-Market, established in 2002, is the largest Korean food distribution company in Vietnam, operating 140 stores nationwide. It distributes around 10,000 products, including Korean agricultural products and industrial goods. K-Market has succeeded in localization and differentiation strategies and has been selected as one of Vietnamās top 100 brands for five consecutive years.
The company employs about 1,700 local Vietnamese workers and has around 600 partner companies, including high-end hotels, restaurants, catering services, and local markets.
Mayor Lee stated, “Goyang is pushing forward with the development of a Free Economic Zone to break free from overlapping regulations and transform into a global self-sufficient city. We plan to develop industries such as bio-medical, media, and content convergence in the Ilsan Techno Valley, where land supply is scheduled by the end of this year.” He added, “I hope that this agreement will lead to a wonderful partnership between K-Market and Goyang City for economic exchanges.”
Shin Young-hwa, President of K-Market, said, “Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer and is rapidly growing with investment in the IT and bio industries, with an economic growth rate expected to exceed 6% this year.” He continued, “We will actively cooperate to help Goyang City promote various industrial policies.”
Mayor Lee also congratulated Ko Sang-gu, Chairman of K&K Global Trading, who could not attend the event, and urged further active cooperation. Ko was unanimously elected as the 2nd President of the World Federation of Korean Associations in August, with over 500 Korean associations as members.
Prior to the agreement signing, Mayor Lee, along with President Shin, visited K-Marketās logistics center in Hanoi.
K-Market is investing $100 million to establish a state-of-the-art, comprehensive logistics center in Ho Chi Minh City, which will be 1.5 times larger than the Hanoi logistics center to build a nationwide distribution network in Vietnam.
