Dear Overseas Koreans and Korean Association Families,
A hopeful New Year of 2025 has arrived. First, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and respect to all overseas Koreans who are dedicating themselves in their respective places around the world to the development of the Korean community and to enhancing the prestige of Korea.
Despite the hopeful start to the new year, we are also deeply saddened by the recent national tragedies. The unprecedented political chaos caused by the impeachment of the president has increased political turmoil, and many lives were lost in the tragic accident at Muan Airport involving Jeju Air. I pray for the souls of those who lost their lives in this accident, and I offer my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, sharing the grief with the people of South Korea. I hope that this year, we can overcome these difficult times together, comforting and helping one another so that everyone can heal and recover.
Last year, the global Korean community and Korea faced new challenges and changes. Despite the uncertainties of the global economy, regional conflicts, and rapidly changing technological environments, we overseas Koreans have respected each other’s values, united, raised the voice of the Korean community, and achieved remarkable progress. These accomplishments are thanks to the passion and efforts of the Korean Associations and overseas Koreans around the world.
2025 will be a year of significant progress for the World Federation of Korean Associations. This year, we will focus on three main goals to further unite our efforts.
First, strengthening the global network. We will create more opportunities for collaboration to promote the value of the Korean community and enhance connections among fellow Koreans. We will activate networks across regions to achieve sustainable development for the Korean community.
Second, building a foundation for the next generation. By encouraging the participation and capacity building of the next generation of Koreans, we will nurture talents who will take responsibility for the future of the Korean community. To achieve this, we will enhance educational programs and leadership forums, and expand digital platforms to facilitate communication with the next generation.
Third, expanding exchanges with our homeland. We will strengthen cooperation between South Korea and the overseas Korean community, supporting our fellow Koreans in playing a bridging role for global Korea. We will build a foundation to expand contributions from overseas Koreans in various areas such as economy, culture, and diplomacy.
The New Year is a year of hope and challenges. With each of you doing your best in your respective positions, we can create a larger vision together. I hope that the stories of the global Korean community will be widely spread through the Overseas Koreans News, and I ask for your participation and support this year as well.
In the New Year of 2025, I sincerely pray that those deeply saddened by this recent tragedy will find comfort and peace. I sincerely hope that everyone’s pain will be quickly healed, and that we can regain hope once again.
